Item Restricted Consequences of global pandemic on workplace and HRM practices in digital start-up companies in Berlin(2021) Soroka, Timur; Mantel, Peter; Poljsak-Rosinski, Petra; bachelor thesis in Digital Business and ManagementThe Covid-19 pandemic has forced many governments worldwide to impose numerous restrictions. The impact of these restrictions also affected the organizational practised by requiring many employees to work remotely from home. This paper analyses the implications of Covid-19 crisis on digital/IT-related start-up companies. Digital professionals are accustomed to flexible working arrangements, but not all of them remotely and for a long continuing time. In total 20 written interviews were conducted. Ten among them with HR managers of the start-up companies in Berlin and other ten with employees of a medium-big internationally active IoT start-up also based in Berlin. Findings revealed that the main implication of Covid-19 crisis for HRM practises affected onboarding processes, followed by employee engagement activities, while performance evaluation and training practises were affected in a lesser degree. Due to virtual onboarding practises, it takes now more time to educate and introduce new hires to the company. Limited virtual engagement activities lead to lack of personal communication between employees and decrease sense of belonginess. On the other side, results have shown that employees are more productive, independent and focused on the job while in the home office. Overall, current study concludes that managing the remote work of digital professionals was not a significant challenge for HR managers in start-up companiesItem Restricted COVID-19 as an Accelerator for eLearning Solutions in German Universities(2021) Herold, Marvin M; Behar Villegas, Erick; Lieb, Manfred G; bachelor thesis in Digital Business and ManagementThe current lockdown situation as the result of coronavirus has proven to be severely impactful to businesses and the education industry alike. Many educational institutions have found technical and organizational solutions to continue their studies so that the students are not affected as much by the prevailing situation. The eLearning industry has experienced significant growth and has proven to be the backbone of the education industry. The technical eLearning platforms have come across multiple opportunities during this situation to expand their business and introduce new features in their platforms that can support the development of online learning needs for students. Students in Germany have positively responded to online learning solutions, although predisposed in general to conventional classroom-style teaching. The positive experiences from online study mechanisms have influenced the trend. Overall students have shown high levels of satisfaction and simply reveal that online learning systems are a great enhancement to traditional learning approaches. Amongst other topics, this study analyzes the communication behavior of students via digital devices and how the rise of COVID-19 has propagated eLearning in Germany. While both are similar and often interchangeable it must be recognized that while the supply chain is currently undergoing a crisis, had risk assessment been properly managed, the supply chain disruptions would have been avoided in the first place. Better management of the supply chain would be achieved through striking that balance between cost efficiency and reliability. Some manufacturers in the automobile industry, with their 'Just In Time' processes, have been particularly adversely affected by the current disruptions to the supply chain. The complex logistics behind the supply chain is a factor that is covered by risk management protocols, yet, it can be argued that these manufacturers have disregarded these protocols in pursuit of lowering costs in the name of efficiency. Herein, we note the case of two manufacturers, General Motors of the United States and the Indian owned but British based Jaguar Land Rover Group, to see examples of how the industry can choose different paths, either to fully manage and follow risk assessment protocols, or choose to emphasize operational efficiency above all else and take the calculated risk in minimizing or disregarding those risk protocols
