Item Restricted What Are the Key Factors for Renergen Limited in Generating a Sustained Competitive Advantage in the Current State of the Market?(2022) Jacques Hattingh; Villegas, Erick Behar; Wagner, Evamaria; Faculty of Business Administration; Berlin International University of Applied SciencesAUTHOR-SUPPLIED ABSTRACT: Abstract Identifying a lucrative business opportunity is one of the most crucial aspects of managing a new and an established company and if you fail to adapt, your business will die. This was the driving force behind this paper as it aims to investigate how an upcoming renewable energy company in South Africa, Renergen Limited, has aligned their strategy and resources to exploit opportunities presented in the domestic and international market. Through the use of Porters Five forces analysis, one gains an understanding of the external environment, while application of the VRIO model to existing company resources aims to investigate if they are indeed capable of generating a sustained competitive advantage. This case study utilized a mixed methods methodology, and relies primarily on secondary data collected over multiple points in time, supplemented by an interview conducted with the CEO of Renergen Limited to aid the discussion. This is compiled in a single case study which utilizes exploratory and deductive research, and aims to confirm the hypothesis that Renergen Limited will become a major global player in the global helium industry, while simultaneously establishing a quasi-monopoly in their domestic market.
