Item Restricted Augmented Textiles : Exploring the Intersection Between Streetwear and Digital Fashion(2023) Jan Loebl; Goodwin, Amara; Rieß, Henrik; Faculty of Architecture and Design; Berlin International University of Applied SciencesAI-GENERATED ABSTRACT: Abstract: The omnipresence of smartphones has altered the perception of art and entertainment, including the fashion industry. The widespread use of smartphones during runway shows has led to a diluted live experience for fashion enthusiasts. This bachelor thesis explores the potential of augmented reality (AR) to bridge streetwear and digital fashion, offering a more immersive experience for the audience while preserving the essence of runway shows. The research analyzes fashion's relationship with technology, smartphone rituals, and AR applications in other fields. Experimentation with AR applications will be conducted to assess their suitability for runway experiences. The thesis aims to foster a balanced approach to fashion shows, embracing the transformative power of digital innovations to revolutionize the industry. This study aims to investigate the influence of digital transformation on the hotel sector and preview various techniques and fea- tures employed by revenue management and hotel practitioners to optimize revenue and expand hotel businesses. The study uses a qualitative method, eight interviews have been conducted with hotel revenue managers and specialists in the hospitality sector. Based on this data, an analysis was conducted to examine the influence of digitalization on the firm's value generation and the cost benefits of this transfor- mation. The findings of this study show that digital transformation positively influ- ences the hotel business on several fronts, including profitability maximization and guest satisfaction. These results resonate with the analysis of the "NUMA" case study. The company has recognized a 500% increase in revenue during the corona- virus pandemic. The results of this research revealed that it is incredibly vital for hotel operators to change from traditional to innovative strategies and services, and to invest more in implementing digitalization within revenue management frame- work and all related systems and services to develop their businesses. This shift has also affected the workflow of graphic designers and web developers, creating a need for collaboration and shared knowledge between the two disciplines. Bridging the gap between design and development is crucial to ensure visual elements align with designers' visions and address challenges related to page element alignment, browser compatibility, and mobile responsiveness. This thesis aims to explore the intersection between graphic/web design and web development, focusing on typography and layout in web magazines. The research draws on existing literature, including studies on typography's role in website design and the importance of art direction for enhancing user engagement. Previous research in Swedish has explored typography's impact on website headings and the readability of typographical elements on mobile devices. However, this thesis seeks to contribute to the field from the perspective of a visual communication scholar, offering insights and recommendations for website designers. The scope of the thesis encompasses web magazines accessed on desktops and smartphones, given their popularity as primary internet connection devices. Emphasis will be placed on texts and readability in web magazine design. The methodology involves secondary research to examine historical backgrounds, literature reviews on magazines and the web, and the role of graphic design. The thesis delves into the evolution of typography on the web, including its historical context, followed by an exploration of web layout components. A case study of the web magazine Kinfolk will be conducted to analyze its typography and layout across desktop and mobile platforms. Additionally, interviews with web designers and developers will provide further insights into web typography and layout practices, informing subsequent chapters and a design project. This transformation of public libraries reflects a growing emphasis on experiences, collaboration, and community, positioning the library as a social and cultural hub as opposed to a repository of books and productivity. This thesis explores how libraries have evolved from quiet, individual study spaces into social and dynamic environments that foster human connection. In response to the digital age, public library spaces have changed their spatial environments, and the library has become a flexible and hybrid space balancing digital and physical experiences. Through classic design theories, case studies, and the development of a conceptual design framework, the project reimagines library interiors with spaces to reflect, discover, and exchange. The thesis and proposed framework found that through flexible spatial arrangements and an interior space that allows for dynamic changes that promote community, the public library space can become a beacon of social connectivity.Item Restricted Needlework Typography in the Digital Age : the Use of Traditional Needlework Techniques in Contemporary Typographic Projects and Type Design(2023) Evelyn Claudia Fuchs; Rieß, Henrik; Schroeder, Süheyla; Faculty of Architecture and Design; Berlin International University of Applied SciencesAI-GENERATED ABSTRACT: Abstract: Typography, an amalgam of visual imagery, language, and art, continually evolves, buoyed by the innovations of modern technology and the reflective inspirations from bygone eras. With the onset of the Information Age, the rapid technological advancements have not only reshaped traditional industries but also expanded the digital realm, ushering in a new era of communication and design. Amidst this digital proliferation, the allure of traditional needlework crafts emerges as a serene counterpoint, offering a tactile respite from the digital deluge. This thesis delves into the intriguing confluence of needlework, typography, and technology, unraveling a shared visual lexicon that binds these disparate fields. The concept of needlework typography, a fusion of textile crafts and type design, serves as the crucible where the timeless allure of fabric artistry melds with the structured elegance of letterforms. Through a meticulous examination of historical needlework practices, a deep dive into the transformative potential of needlework typography, and a discerning look at technology's impact on these age-old crafts, the thesis unfolds a narrative that rekindles the relevance of needlework in the digital epoch. Utilizing the knitted alphabet as a tangible exemplar, the discourse explores how needlework techniques can morph letterforms, offering a fresh palette for type design. A case study featuring contemporary needlework typography projects like "CMYK Alphabet," "Knit Grotesk," and "Raspustilsya Sans," further elucidates the modern-day applications of needlework techniques in typographic design, thereby casting a spotlight on the untapped potential of needlework typography. The outcome accentuates the enriching interplay between the tactile and digital, evoking a contemplative dialogue on design in an era of relentless digitalization.
