Item Restricted Biophillic Interior Design Strategies in Cappadocian Hotels(2024) Özçağ, Sena; Goodwin, Amara; Pöğün-Zander, Yüksel; Faculty of Architecture and Design; Berlin International University of Applied SciencesAUTHOR-SUPPLIED ABSTRACT: Cappadocia is a region in Türkiye famous for its volcanic landscape and cave houses. For thousands of years, human settlements have developed in harmony with the nature of the region. However, due to the increasing demand for tourism in the region, cave houses have been converted into hotels, and the unique texture of the region is under threat due to wrong design applications. Biophilic design is a design approach that aims to design places that harmonize with the natural environment by integrating nature and natural processes into the design. The ongoing problem of the Cappadocia region reveals the importance of biophilic design. The research aims to develop a harmonious interior design strategy that integrates with the natural environment, cultural texture, and characteristics of the region, instead of designs made without considering the environment of Cappadocia. In this context, this thesis investigates the potential of biophilic design in creating spaces that are compatible with the natural and cultural texture of Cappadocia and preserving these textures, and its potential application to the interior of a cave hotel. 4 Acknowledgement I would like to express my gratitude to my first advisor Prof. Amara Goodwin and my second examiner Prof. Yüksel Pöğün-Zander, who guided me with their valuable feedback throughout the research process. Appendix Abstract This systematic literature review examines the impact of organizational culture on employee well-being, by analyzing studies from different levels of the organizational culture Scheins Model (2017). Organizational culture shapes the working environment and nurtures either positive or negative well-being. Six factors of organizational culture will be examined, two of each layer of Schein's model (2017); leadership, communication, philosophy, values, trust, and teamwork. The primary objective is to understand the role organizational culture plays in influencing employee well-being. And how the different levels impact each other. The research includes books, journals, articles, qualitative/quantitative, and mixed-method studies. The findings include the importance for managers to understand the different layers of organizational culture, and how they impact each other and can be changed. As well as the positive and negative effects of organizational culture on employee well-being. Lastly, the mediating and moderating factors of employee well-being impacted by organizational culture are highlightedItem Restricted Creating wellness interior spaces using Wabi-Sabi principles(2024) Rosner, Emily Mariama; Köknar, Sait Ali; Tubles, John; Faculty of Architecture and Design; Berlin International University of Applied SciencesItem Restricted Design Strategies in Contexts of Destruction : Exploring Architectural Designed Strategies for Destroyed Buildings in Berlin Aiming to Preserve the City’s Identity with the Threat of GlobalizaYon and Urban Growth(2024) Escandon Scola, Sofia; Anwandter, Juan Almarza; Staudinger, Lukas; Faculty of Architecture and Design; Berlin International University of Applied SciencesItem Restricted Exploring and understanding the Identity and Heritage of Berlin's U-Bahn stations in the context of contemporary revitalization projects(2024) Święcka, Michalina Maria; Goodwin, Amara; Wilson, Roger; Faculty of Architecture and Design; Berlin International University of Applied SciencesItem Restricted From PRL to Present : Exploring the Influence of People’s Republic of Poland-Era Design on Contemporary Interiors(2024) Gulińska, Katarzyna; Goodwin, Amara; Starck, Adrian von; Faculty of Architecture and Design; Berlin International University of Applied SciencesItem Restricted Lessons to be learnt from the study of Ugandan rural housing and its potential to catalyse a re-adaptation of traditional techniques in post-colonial Ugandan architectural spaces(2024) Muheirwe, Mugisha Joel; Anwandter, Juan Almarza; Huneck, Karsten; Faculty of Architecture and Design; Berlin International University of Applied SciencesItem Restricted Preservation of Traditional Textile Design in India(2024) Shaikh, Farheen Zamil; Demovič, Barbora; Lemke, Katharina; Faculty of Architecture and Design; Berlin International University of Applied SciencesItem Restricted Prints and Patterns : The Role of Wallpaper in Shaping Modern German Interior Aesthetics(2024) Matei, Maria-Cătălina; Escobar, Pierre; Köknar, Sait Ali; Faculty of Architecture and Design; Berlin International University of Applied SciencesItem Restricted Rediscovering Value in the Unwanted : Redefining Aesthetics Through Spolia and Palimpsest in Sustainable Interiors(2024) Garg, Harshi; Ebert, Carola; Goodwin, Amara; Faculty of Architecture and Design; Berlin International University of Applied SciencesAUTHOR-SUPPLIED ABSTRACT: Repurposing and utilizing disused interior elements, materials, surfaces, and textures is critical in contemporary architecture and interior design for creating visually appealing and meaningful spaces. It generates ideas that pave the way for the revival of materials as emotional expressions and reflections of an environment's aesthetic and historical value, as seen in Palimpsest, Spolia, Kintsugi, and Wabi-sabi. Spolia refers to when components from older structures are merged into more recent ones, revealing the historical layers of a current location. The palimpsest concept, representing continuity and change, refers to the visible history embedded within design characteristics. Kintsugi art involves repairing defects to create focus points representing change and imperfectness. Wabi-sabi represents the peaceful and quiet atmosphere it produces by emphasizing the beauty of imperfection, impermanence, and natural aging. These concepts combine to improve the current design's beauty, interaction, and historical narrationItem Restricted Representing Cultural Identity through Movie Sets(2024) Bara, Bjona; Brünjes, Katrin; Starck, Adrian von; Faculty of Architecture and Design; Berlin International University of Applied SciencesItem Restricted The Impact of Misrepresented Mexican Pre-Columbian Imagery in Contemporary Media(2024) Villanueva Bracho, Amelia; Ciechanowicz, Anc; López, Valeria Garci-Crespo; Faculty of Architecture and Design; Berlin International University of Applied SciencesItem Restricted The topic of this thesis is to understand if the design of masks may have therapeutic impact on behavior(2024) Bellangé, Chloé Mari; Demovič, Barbora; Lemke, Katharina; Faculty of Architecture and Design; Berlin International University of Applied SciencesItem Restricted Traditional techniques and schemes of embroidery in Bosnia and Herzegovina(2024) Predić, Simona; Lemke, Katharina; Tibus, Alexander Christian; Faculty of Architecture and Design; Berlin International University of Applied SciencesItem Restricted Transforming Interior Spaces, Enhancing Lives : The Impact of Adaptive Reuse and Community Well-being from Reconstructing an Industrial Building into a Co-Housing Project(2024) Stefa, Altea; Brünjes, Katrin; Starck, Adrian von; Faculty of Architecture and Design; Berlin International University of Applied SciencesAUTHOR-SUPPLIED ABSTRACT: The aim for this research thesis is to analyze the transformation processes of old industrial buildings into co-living student housing that offers its residents a sense of flexibility, wellbeing and ownness. Comprehending the contrast between the industrial architecture adaptive reuse and their relationship to interior design, that is reflected through sustainable innovations and clever layout organization. In the introduction chapter the thesis is going to define and research definitions and the history behind: Industrial Building, Adaptive Reuse and Communal Architecture, while closing the chapter with Berlin as a metropolitan city. Furthermore in the thesis there are two case studies on adaptive reuse projects transformed into Student Accommodation that are analyzed and used as inspiration for the Bachelor Project “TXL Community”. Throughout the research various examples and data are going to be mentioned to support the research, while putting the emphasis on creating the “ideal” co- living project. The data analyzed have primarily general information and throughout the chapters becomes more focused on the interior architecture of student housing as a communal environment. 3 Table of ContentItem Restricted Typology of dwellings as the living testament of cultural knowledge and tradition : A study of Romanian peasant architecture(2024) Bulugea, Ana-Maria; Anwandter, Juan Almarza; Huneck, Karsten; Faculty of Architecture and Design; Berlin International University of Applied SciencesItem Restricted Vastu Shastra - An ancient Indian art of placement(2024) Gollapudi, Aapthi; Goodwin, Amara; Wilson, Roger; Faculty of Architecture and Design; Berlin International University of Applied SciencesItem Restricted Visual Echoes Of A Persian Palimpsest : Shahnameh's Narrative Revival And Cultural Preservation(2024) Haghighat, Fatemeh; Müller, Felix; Rieß, Henrik; Faculty of Architecture and Design; Berlin International University of Applied SciencesAUTHOR-SUPPLIED ABSTRACT: Fig. 1. Caligraphy of the first verse of Shahnameh (Book of Kings): “In the name of the lord of the soul and wisdom, whose wisdom, man’s thought cannot surpass.” This research paper examines how interactive visual storytelling techniques can be employed to revive the cultural significance of Shahnameh, the cele- brated Persian epic poem by Ferdowsi, and engage a broader, global audience. The study analyzes the key elements of Shahnameh, including its characters, stories, cultural values, and historical context, and comparatively evaluates traditional and modern sto- rytelling methods to bridge the gap between the ep- ic's rich heritage and contemporary audiences. The findings inform the design of a tabletop role-playing game that leverages Shahnameh's structure, themes, and visual language to immerse players in the myth- ological realm, thereby promoting cultural aware- ness and preservation
