Item Restricted An Exploration on How to Improve the Relationship Between Gen Z and Nature With the Help of Visual Communication Design(2023) Nomi Kim Köder; Kim, Erin; Rieß, Henrik; Faculty of Architecture and Design; Berlin International University of Applied SciencesAI-GENERATED ABSTRACT: Abstract: The escalating digitalization and urbanization have distanced the modern populace, particularly Generation Z, from nature, impacting their nature connectedness and, consequently, environmental awareness. Inspired by the visual narrative of "Avatar: The Way of Water," this thesis navigates the complex relationship between humans and nature, focusing on Gen Z residing in urban settings like Berlin, Germany. Through a blend of surveys, secondary research, and an exploration of visual communication fields like Technobiophilia and Biodesign, the research aims to bolster the nature connectedness among Gen Z individuals. By delving into the intricacies of nature connectedness and its pivotal role in fostering a pro-environmental mindset, the thesis endeavors to answer how visual communication design can bridge the growing chasm between urbanized Gen Z individuals and nature, potentially catalyzing a ripple effect of heightened environmental consciousness and action against climate change. This thesis explores the connection between electronic music, its visual design, and the effects of the pandemic on the industry. By studying the history of electronic music and its sub-genres, the thesis aims to understand the contextual relationship between music genres and design elements. It also evaluates how the pandemic accelerated the digitalization of the music industry and analyzes the impact on live events, online streaming, and the mental health of artists during lockdowns. The research methodology includes a combination of primary and secondary sources. Semi-formal interviews were conducted with electronic music listeners, makers, and a PR manager representing music artists. These interviews provide valuable insights into the experiences and perspectives of individuals involved in the electronic music scene. Understanding the objectives and dynamics of collectives and labels in the electronic music industry is essential for graphic designers working in this field. The thesis emphasizes the importance of aligning design with the goals and characteristics of the collective or label being represented, considering factors such as branding, marketing, and networking. This study aims to investigate the influence of digital transformation on the hotel sector and preview various techniques and fea- tures employed by revenue management and hotel practitioners to optimize revenue and expand hotel businesses. The study uses a qualitative method, eight interviews have been conducted with hotel revenue managers and specialists in the hospitality sector. Based on this data, an analysis was conducted to examine the influence of digitalization on the firm's value generation and the cost benefits of this transfor- mation. The findings of this study show that digital transformation positively influ- ences the hotel business on several fronts, including profitability maximization and guest satisfaction. These results resonate with the analysis of the "NUMA" case study. The company has recognized a 500% increase in revenue during the corona- virus pandemic. The results of this research revealed that it is incredibly vital for hotel operators to change from traditional to innovative strategies and services, and to invest more in implementing digitalization within revenue management frame- work and all related systems and services to develop their businesses. With the onset of the Information Age, the rapid technological advancements have not only reshaped traditional industries but also expanded the digital realm, ushering in a new era of communication and design. Amidst this digital proliferation, the allure of traditional needlework crafts emerges as a serene counterpoint, offering a tactile respite from the digital deluge. This thesis delves into the intriguing confluence of needlework, typography, and technology, unraveling a shared visual lexicon that binds these disparate fields. The concept of needlework typography, a fusion of textile crafts and type design, serves as the crucible where the timeless allure of fabric artistry melds with the structured elegance of letterforms. Through a meticulous examination of historical needlework practices, a deep dive into the transformative potential of needlework typography, and a discerning look at technology's impact on these age-old crafts, the thesis unfolds a narrative that rekindles the relevance of needlework in the digital epoch. Utilizing the knitted alphabet as a tangible exemplar, the discourse explores how needlework techniques can morph letterforms, offering a fresh palette for type design. A case study featuring contemporary needlework typography projects like "CMYK Alphabet," "Knit Grotesk," and "Raspustilsya Sans," further elucidates the modern-day applications of needlework techniques in typographic design, thereby casting a spotlight on the untapped potential of needlework typography. The outcome accentuates the enriching interplay between the tactile and digital, evoking a contemplative dialogue on design in an era of relentless digitalization.
