Abstract

The living space of a person should provoke familiarity and a private atmosphere. Each space and room is dedicated to its role. However, what about a room dedicated to sex? A sex room - a room that is used for the sole purpose of sexual engagement (Urban Dictionary, 2007). From this statement, many people would assume that sex rooms are something very dark and imposing, but what about looking more into the soft and sensual part of the sex rooms? From the erotic to the human senses of the room. In other words, researching the dynamic between intimacy and interior design. From private sex rooms and love hotel rooms to even more specific fetish rooms. This research's goal is to bring a more educational understanding of sex in the interior and human body reactions to it, providing valuable insights and not leaving it as something that is taboo and suppressed. The thesis will examine different variations of room layouts and designs in various erotic specified spaces, as well as human perceptions, which involve the relationships and human reactions to colors and materials in closed-off spaces. This research aims to understand what kind of space is considered more intimate and private while provoking deeper human emotions of sexuality within the space.
