Abstract
This thesis explores the influence of traditional Turkish carpets on contemporary interior design,
focusing on patterns, colors, and textile choices. Turkish carpets are examined not only as
decorative artifacts but as cultural signifiers that embody symbolic meanings and artisanal
techniques. The research combines literature review, visual analysis, and case studies to
investigate how these carpets communicate identity, tradition, and memory within modern spatial
contexts. Special attention is given to how two-dimensional motifs and weaving techniques are
transformed into three-dimensional design strategies. The included design project, Halı Graft,
translates historical carpet elements into spatial experiences across multiple floors, each
reflecting a different cultural layer. Through materiality, texture, and narrative expression, the
project demonstrates how Turkish carpets can be reinterpreted in ways that preserve cultural
heritage while engaging with contemporary design needs. The study ultimately argues for the
continued relevance of traditional carpets as dynamic tools within user-centered and culturally
sustainable interior design practices
