Abstract
AUTHOR-SUPPLIED ABSTRACT: Abstract Cancer is a life-threatening disease that has various side effects on a patient's mental, physical, and emotional health. This traumatic and lonely experience results in a need to improve the healing experience of a patient, especially with cancer cases expecting to rise drastically. The increase in demand for cancer care centers also demands a better-designed center. It is more difficult to obtain the opinions of a patient's experience in comparison to obtaining the perspectives of doctors, caretakers, and designers. Thus, this thesis aims to narrow that gap by focusing on the opinions and voices of patients' experiences while analyzing the different interior design strategies that are influential on the healing experience of these patients. Spatial arrangement, lighting, furniture, materials, and colors strategies will be discussed with the support of three case studies of cancer care centers from different countries. A design project, The Healing Retreat, will be included in this thesis to provide an example of how a potential cancer care center can be designed.
